Land use zoning and traffic-related air pollutant research

During my time at North Seattle College, I took UGR 294 – the college's undergraduate research course – under Heather Price and Ann Murkowski.

I explored the relationship between land use zoning and traffic-related air pollutant exposure in the Seattle area. I found that residents of zones where attached homes (apartments, condos, townhomes...) are legal to build are exposed to significantly more pollution than residents of zones where only detached homes are legal.

(This is a pretty obvious outcome, given that most zoning maps limit multifamily/attached homes to busy roads, but one that deserved to be quantified nonetheless. Publication forthcoming.)
