Land use zoning and traffic-related air pollutant research
During my time at North Seattle College, I took UGR 294 (the college's undergraduate research course) under Dr. Heather Price and Ann Murkowski for several quarters.
I explored the relationship between land use zoning and traffic-related air pollutant exposure in the Seattle area. I found that residents of zones where apartments are legal to build are exposed to significantly more pollution.
(This is a pretty obvious outcome, given that most zoning maps limit multifamily/attached homes to busy roads, but one that deserved to be quantified nonetheless. Publication forthcoming.)
